Summary
Cybersecurity and infrastructure professional with 10+ years across networking, Windows/Azure administration, and security operations. I own day-to-day security for a ~300-endpoint, three-site hybrid Active Directory/Entra ID environment: endpoint detection and SIEM, email security and DLP, vulnerability remediation, security awareness, and audit evidence for CJIS/CHRI.
Earlier in my career I responded to client ransomware (restored from backup, no ransom paid), account compromise, and worm incidents, and ran Nessus vulnerability management for one of the largest energy companies in the U.S. I turn technical findings into prioritized remediation.

Experience
Infrastructure Administrator
Aug 2023 – PresentHilltop Community Resources · Grand Junction, CO
- Administration. Manage a ~300-endpoint, three-site hybrid AD/Entra ID environment, including Intune, Windows Autopilot, Conditional Access, Entra PIM, Group Policy, Hyper-V, and Azure Virtual Desktop with FSLogix.
- Automation. Automate administration and delegation with PowerShell (including JEA endpoints and Intune-deployed scripts) and Power Automate flows for Microsoft 365 workflows. Run an Azure Automation job that audits Intune devices against actual sign-in patterns and reassigns the primary user to match real usage.
- Detection & response. Built Microsoft Sentinel ingestion (AMA / Azure Arc) with KQL detection rules for domain controllers, plus an automated playbook that alerts the team on use of emergency-access accounts. Deployed Defender for Endpoint via Intune with ASR rules. Hunt threats and serve as the escalation point for security events, investigating and helping contain suspected malicious activity and data loss incidents.
- Identity protection. Implemented risk-based Conditional Access (Entra ID Protection) that automatically requires MFA and a credential reset for risky users and sign-ins and revokes active sessions, containing likely account compromise without manual intervention.
- Security awareness. Rolled out KnowBe4 training and phishing simulations from a library of realistic templates, and tuned mail-flow and quarantine settings so simulations reach inboxes and test real-world user behavior.
- Email security & DLP. Implemented KnowBe4 Email Security (formerly Egress Prevent), which uses sending history to flag messages addressed to the wrong recipient, building on earlier Purview-only DLP.
- Audit & hardening. Audited Active Directory and Microsoft 365 against security baselines (ScubaGear, Maester) and remediated findings across certificate services, SMB signing, and privileged access using Credential Guard, Protected Users, and fine-grained password policies.
- Data protection & compliance. Use Microsoft Purview (auditing, eDiscovery), BitLocker, and Intune MAM/app protection to protect data on managed and BYOD devices. Support Colorado CBI CHRI audits and migrated CHRI data from internal servers to a hosted, CJIS-compliant storage solution.
- Vulnerability & patch management. Built an enterprise patch process on previously unused platforms, prioritize remediation by severity, exploitability, and business impact, and worked with an external penetration-testing team to validate and close findings.
- Networking & operations. Stood up multi-site monitoring with PRTG, support UniFi wireless and firewall/VPN connectivity, and chair weekly Change Control to review security and operational risk before changes go live.
Field Service Engineer · Information Technology Solutions · Aug 2013 – Aug 2023
Grand Junction, CO · managed IT services for small and mid-sized clients
- Incident response. Restored two ransomware-affected clients from backup without paying a ransom, reset credentials and verified no further access, and prevented recurrence by tightening VPN and remote-access controls. Also responded to account compromises.
- Worm outbreak. Responded to a worm that entered through a malicious link and spread across a client network. The incident drove a fleet upgrade and environment modernization, and I ensured SentinelOne EDR was enabled on endpoints through N-able.
- Vulnerability management. Ran Nessus scans and drove remediation of findings for one of the largest energy companies in the country.
- Security audits. Audited local client organizations, recommended network segmentation to protect internal assets, and helped complete customer security questionnaires.
- CJIS compliance. For a background-screening client, supported a customer on-site audit and implemented its findings, including rogue access point audits, monitoring of privileged access workstations, and encrypted backups.
- Federal contract work. Held HSPD-12 credentials for contract work at a federal facility, evaluating data backup solutions and documenting the network.
- Infrastructure. Designed, installed, and supported LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, firewall, VPN, and VoIP environments; administered Windows Server, VMware, and Hyper-V, DNS/DHCP, and backup/recovery.
Projects
Home lab: Linux, virtualization, and backup
A Proxmox-based lab where I run self-hosted services and practice production-style administration: Linux server management, virtualization across Proxmox and XCP-ng, and Borg for deduplicated, encrypted backups. It is where I test things before they go near anyone else's environment.
Wazuh SIEM / XDR deployment
Built a two-node Wazuh deployment (master and worker) on Ubuntu Server virtual machines for open-source security monitoring: agent-based host telemetry, log analysis, and alerting. A hands-on complement to the Microsoft Sentinel and Defender work I do professionally.
